National Law School India University (NLSIU) admits candidates to its BA and LLB course through Common Law Admission Test. NLSIU offers both regular and distance education programs in Law. The NLSIU provides all kind of generalized facility to the students.
National Law School India University NLSIU is one of the 12 national law universities in India. It was established by the Government of Karnataka, the Bangalore University and the initiatives of senior members of the Bar Council of India as well as that of Karnataka State Bar Council.
The NLSIU is located in Bengaluru (Karnataka). The institute offer 80 seats in its 5 year BA LLB program out of which 55 seats are reserved for general category students. The university is administered by the people holding very high positions in the field of law.
The following are the courses offered by NLSIU:
1. BA. LLB Hons Five Year Integrated Course
2. LLM (Master of Laws)
3. Mphil (Master of Philosophy)
4. PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)
5. LLD (Doctor of Laws)
6. Distance Education Courses
For BA and LLB:
A candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination not less than 50% aggregate marks (45% for reserved categories). Those who are appearing for class 12th exams in 2011 can also be eligible to apply.
Candidate should be under 20 years (relaxation of 2 years for reserved categories) before 1st July, 2011.
For LLM course :
1. Admission to the LLM course candidate should have passed the LLB Degree or its equivalent from a recognized university.
2. Candidate should have secured not less than 50% of marks in the aggregate of the maximum marks prescribed.
An applicant seeking admission to the M.Phil Degree Programme should have an LLM degree either from the NLSIU or any other recognized University, with minimum a 'B' grade or an aggregate of 50% marks or its equivalent.
PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) :
Admission to PhD Degree programme candidate must have a Master of Laws degree from any recognized University having scored atleast of 50% or an M.Phil in Law from a recognized University.
LLD (Doctor of Laws) :
Candidate seeking admission to the LLD programme should have a PhD degree. The LLD Degree is conferred upon a person for exceptional academic achievement in the field of law or interdisciplinary studies having bearing upon law.
Distance Education Courses:
1. Distance education or correspondence courses are open to any graduate from any recognized University.
2. Those who have appeared for the final year degree exam and are awaiting results may also be eligible to apply.
3. There is no age limit or minimum percentage of marks prescribed.
Availability of Application Form:
Candidates can obtain the application form the Registrar by sending Demand Draft for the requisite fee drawn on the State Bank of India, Indian Bank, or any other nationalized bank payable to the NLSIU at Bangalore or candidates can also download the application form from the website www.clat.ac.in
The dully filled in application form for the Admission Test shall be returned to the Registrar, NLSIU on or before the last date as notified.
Documents Required for Ph.D/ LL.D programme :
Along with the application form, the candidate is required to submit the following:
a) An outline of the scheme of research intended for the thesis
b) A chapter-wise proposal of the work in about 2,000 words
c) A Certificate from the institution concerned testifying length of service, wherever required
d) One set of published papers, monographs, articles and books if any.
e) An attested copy of the Membership Certificate (only for Ph.D. course)
f) An attested photocopies of LLM, M.Phil and MA, M.Sc, M.Com Degrees whichever is applicable along with the mark sheet (only for Ph.D. course)
g) An attested photocopy of the Ph.D. Degree (only for LLD course).
