Ans: Hey Sachin , Graduates in electrical engineering have opportunities in Government and private companies for installation, operation and maintenance of electronics equipments and systems. Electronic and Electrical engineering both deal with the study and applications of electrons and electricity. Usually a distinction between the two disciplines is made except in the United States. To be specific, electrical engineering deals with large-scale electrical systems like power transmission & motor control (i.e. where electricity is used to transmit energy) while electronic engineering is studies small-scale electronic systems like computers and integrated circuits (i.e. where electricity is used to transmit information).Employment opportunities in both the fields are looking up. Like every other industry in India, the electric/electronic industry too has benefitted a lot from the de-licensing and de-regulations that the government has allowed. Now with exposure to global players and competition, the Indian companies have improved the quality of production and are growing to their true potential. This, in turn means better job opportunities for electronic and electrical engineering graduates. The industry has seen a reported growth of 20% and is expected to continue at the same pace in the coming years. Qualified engineers are getting absorbed across industries and sectors and will continue to do so in future. I am attaching a link which will provide you with a detailed description on electrical engineering . Good Luck !!

Query: last year,i hav completed diploma in IT.so wht should i do.shall i go for B.tech or any other option is there.
By: Mukesh Singh

Ans: Hi Mukesh You could go for an engineering degree post your diploma, or you could take up a job basis your qualifications. The diploma holders have it a little tough as compared to someone who holds an engineering degree, but in the long run it will be the work output that will count. You could also explore options in other streams if you wish to further study.

Query: Hi, i am in 2nd year chemical engg. I am willing to prepare for higher studies. But which way to go confused. MBA, M.TECH OR CIVIL SERVICES ? I am 85% holder in 10th & 12th both.
By: Gaurav Tayagi

Ans: Hi Gaurav, your academic background is pretty strong. The 3 options that you have in mind are quite varied. What you should ideally pursue depends totally on your interests and future career ambitions.
If you wish to make it big in the corporate world or set up your own business an MBA would be the best path to take.
If you wish to specialise in Chemical engineering or pursue any other aspect of engineering choose M.Tech.
Go for Civil Services if you have aspirations of becoming an IAS officer or foreign diplomat (IFS) and in the process contribute to the betterment of the nation. Take out some time to introspect and decide what you would LIKE to do. Then get back to us. We will guide you further. Best of Luck!!!

Query:i have completed my b.tech in ece branch with 72.86% in 2010 and have not been placed.what shall i do to get job?i have filled the forms of banks and recently given the paper of ecil.
By: Varsha Verma

Ans: Hi Varsha, There are two things. First, what is it that you want to do? If you want to stick to electronics and communication, then it is compulsory to do an M. Tech. Even if you want to do research oriented jobs, M. Tech is mandatory. Secondly, say you choose to not stick to the engineering field, in which case, you will need to do an MBA. But with your qualification, I don't see any reason why you are not getting jobs. Try both the prvate and govt. sector. Some suggestions: Private - TCS, INFOCYS, WIPRO & Govt. - BHEL, BSNL, DRDO, IOCL, SAIL, ONGC, NTPC, NPCIL etc.

Query: Sir/Maem, I am currently into 3rd year of engineering (IT). I am confused what to opt for next - MBA or should i go for job?? Is it easier to get into good B-schools if you have profesional experience??
By: Priti Singh

Ans: Dear Student, both options are open for you. If you want to study and then apply for jobs, you can do MBA and then apply for jobs, that will increase your job opportunities. And if you want to do a job then gain some experience first, and then apply for MBA, preference to experienced people may be given by B-schools.

Query: I am from Kanpur and I am in last year of my graduation (BCA). So which one college is the best for me. As i am preparing for MCA entrance from TIME institiue. And one question more , MCA is good or MBA ad my background is from commerce.

Hi, I am a student preparing for different management exams. I want to know what's the differnce between a post graduate diploma in management and a regular MBA degree?? Does a PGDM hold lesser recognition and value? I am talking specifically with reference to the PGDM provided by the colleges accepting the MAT score.
By: Aprajay

Ans: Hi Aprajay, the basic difference between PGDM and MBA are:
i> MBA is a Degree course, while PGDM is a Diploma course
ii> MBA Degree is provided by institutes affiliated to a university and follow the curriculam of the university, while PGDM Degree is offered by private B-schools not affiliated to any university.

So these institutes follow their own curriculam and enjoy complete autonomy of the courses offered.

To sum it up, what matters the most is the reputation and curriculam of an MBA institute and the placements for your course offered in that college.

Query: I did diploma in ECE. I'm willing to do Engineering. I got 95.8%. I don't know which college to select, help me plz....,
By: Dipti Singh

Ans: There is many state or private institutes who take Diploma holder for their Engineering Programmes. Few of the Institutes which you may check with are: IP University, Delhi University, JNU, and Thapar University etc.
Few of the other Universities which accept Lateral Entry students are Amrita Institute, Aligarh Muslim University, Manipal Institute of Technology, Universities in Karnataka accepting admission through COMEDK and several Universities in Haryana which you can Target.
Even you can check with IITs but to get a lateral entry in any of the Engineering colleges you have to appear for an Entrance (State level or Institute level). IITs take through IITJEE only.
