Common Entrance exam for Design (CEED)
The Common Entrance Exam for Design is an all India entrance exam conducted Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. This exam is conducted for tests the candidates for perception ability, drawing skills, communication skills and design aptitude.
M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering (GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programs)
(i) Industrial Design,
(ii) Visual Communication,
(iv) Interaction Design
M.Des. in Industrial Design
M.Des. in Industrial Design (GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programs).
Educational Qualification for applying to the Master of Design program:
Product Design at IDC:
Applicant should have valid CEED Score
Applicant should have Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent
Applicant should have Professional Diploma of NID/ Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) or equivalent with atleast 55% marks or equivalent grades (SC/ST category student must have 50% of marks)
Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design at IDC:
Applicants with a Valid CEED Score are eligible to apply.
Candidates should have Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or its equivalent.
Candidates having Professional Diploma of NID / Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) or equivalent are eligible to apply.
Candidates having BFA - Professional course in Applied Arts/Fine Arts (4 year Professional programme, after 10+2) are eligible to apply.
Candidates having Masters Degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications are eligible to apply.
Candidates having 5-year GD Art Degree / Diploma after 10th standard (SSLC) need to have either completed 12th standard examination or have additional one year of professional experience with atleast 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% in case of SC/ST)
Mobility and Vehicle Design at IDC:
Candidate should have Valid CEED Score.
Candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent can also apply.
Applicants having professional Diploma of NID / Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) or equivalent are eligible to apply.
Students passed BFA - Professional course in Applied Arts/Fine Arts(4 year Professional programme, after 10+2), with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% in case of SC/ST) are eligible to apply.
M.Des Programme for foreign Nationals:
Candidates must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (5.5/10.0 or 2.2/4.0) at Bachelor's Degree/Professional Diploma or Professional courses (Minimum 5-year duration) in engineering / Architecture / Design / Fine Arts .
Valid TOEFL score is required for candidates from non-English speaking countries
Outstanding portfolio (which will be evaluated by Post Graduate Committee (PGC) of IDC, IIT Bombay
Eligibility Criteria for applying to the Ph D programme in Design:
Post Graduate Entry Students:
Full Time Students:
Students who have done postgraduate (M.Des) from IIT's & IISc or PGDPD from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and equivalent programs in design are eligible to apply.
B.DES/B.Arch/BFA/MA/M.Sc/MCA Under graduate Diploma in Design of NID or equivalent degree with exceptionally outstanding design related work with a valid CEED score.
Candidate with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience without CEED scores can also be considered. However such applicants will not be awarded Teaching Assistantship/Research Assistantship.
Part Time Students:
In addition to the above qualifications the Part Time Students should have a atleast 2 Years of experience in consultancy, Industry or academia.
Graduate Entry Students:
Students with GDPD from NID or B.Des from IIT Guwahati or equivalent are eligible to apply.
Candidates should have valid CEED score.
Note: There is no age limit for applying this test.

ONLINE submission can be made by accessing the website www.iitb.ac.in/gate. The ONLINE application fee is Rs 950/- ( 475/- for SC/ST/PD Applicants).

Sample Test Paper:
Some sample questions follow, but they should not be taken as complete representation of the examination; they only indicate the probable way questions may be framed.
1. Make a freehand drawing of an "open umbrella".
Draw a three dimensional view with a viewing angle of your choice.
Your drawing should be large enough to fill the space provided.
Use only a pencil for drawing. Do not use paints, crayons, color pencils, poster paints, color markers, inks, color sketch pens etc.
You will be evaluated for your drawing ability in terms of correct perspective, proportions and quality of line.
2. Given below are three forms: a cube, a cone and a sphere.
Combine these three forms in any manner to design a gift for an employee who is leaving a design company.
The forms can be considered as solid, hollow or as wireframes.
You can increase or decrease the size of the given forms, but do not distort them. Specify the materials to be used in the final product.
The design object should be drawn large enough to fill the space provided.
You will be evaluated on your innovativeness, the aesthetic quality of your design, sense of proportion, choice ofmaterials and color etc.
